We’re Not SEN Therapists – And Why That Matters

When we receive messages from parents telling us that “Myllo helped my child with bedtime” or “Meluna helped my daughter recognise colours,” we are genuinely honoured.

However, we need to be clear about something important: We are product developers, not therapists.

We don’t hold degrees in occupational therapy, child psychology, or special education. Therefore, we are not qualified to give advice on your child’s diagnoses or treatment plans.

So, what ARE we? We are listeners and testers. We are the people who created sensory toys, tested them with real children in Gateshead schools, and discovered something unexpected: children with sensory processing differences responded far more strongly than we anticipated.

Why does this distinction matter? It matters because we never want to replace the professional support your child needs, nor do we want to make claims we cannot back up.

What we CAN do is:

  • Share honest feedback from our testing with schools and families.
  • Create quality products based on what children and educators tell us.
  • Connect families with trusted experts and resources.
  • Admit when we don’t know something (which happens often!).

Our promise to you: We will always be transparent about our role. When we share feedback from partners like South Street Community Primary School noting that “SEN children were more responsive,” please know that we are reporting observations, not making medical claims.

We promise to keep learning and improving based on what the ND community teaches us, without ever trying to replace the Occupational Therapists, Paediatricians, Psychologists, and Educators who support your child.

When to consult professionals: If your child has sensory processing challenges, please continue to work with:

  • Occupational Therapists (OTs) for sensory integration strategies.
  • Paediatricians for medical concerns.
  • Educational Psychologists for school support.

We are honoured to create products that families find helpful, but we are on this learning journey with you, not ahead of you.

With gratitude, The MnMCutesy Team
